Why Safe Solo Female Travel Is Not Luck; It Is Research and Planning!

Hi Reader,

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend!

Here in the Arctic, summer is coming slowly, which means the mountain sides are growing a thin vail of green day by day, and the midnight sun has since long arrived (I sleep with a mask on these days).

First things first, today I really want to ask for your help.

I have decided to create a Transformative Solo Female Travel Mastery Program.

After a lifetime of travel, often solo, I have had countless conversations with women saying they would love to travel solo, but who also have a long list of reasons why that is not going to work for them.

If that is you (or someone you know) I truly want to help you who want to explore the world on your own terms find the confidence and overcome whatever is holding you back - and get going!

To make a program that is actually helpful, I need to address the issues you actually struggle with.

So would you mind answering this brief survey, which will take no more than a few seconds to complete? THANK YOU!

And please share this email with women you know would love to travel solo, and might have something to say!

Well, I know that I love traveling solo, and have loved that for years.

Which is why I have just launched a community for Solo Traveling Women on Facebook; Epic Nomad Life for Solo Female Travelers and I would love it if you joined us!

But it turns out solo travel is also a growing world trend, and especially solo female travel is a rapidly increasing in popularity.

This trend is so evident that travel experts have looked into the reasons why, as it is what scientists would call "a significant" difference.

Some reasons women choose to travel solo are:

  • Their partner does not want to travel
  • It is easier to make new friends traveling alone
  • Personal growth and confidence
  • They enjoy autonomy
  • Choosing their favorite destination
  • Not needing to coordinate with anyone else

(Solo Traveler 2023 Reader Survey)

Statistically, men prefer different types of travel to women (like fishing, camping, and hunting), but the numbers are clear: men simply do not travel as much as women.

I often speak with women saying they would love to be able to travel alone, whenever, wherever - but they have reasons why they, in particular, are not able to do that.

One big issue for many women seems to be safety, or the percieved lack of feeling safe if they were to be traveling alone (but there are also many other reasons).

So I have created a short article about solo female travel safety: how to think about safety, how to manage safety, and how to overcome fear of bad things happening traveling alone.

Remember: Hundreds of thousands of women travel solo every day, and the vast majority come back home in one piece - happy, safe, and so much richer for it!

On that note, I wish you a wonderful next week, happy travel planning, and we'll talk soon!

Best,

Hege :)

Hey Reader, I am back to normal with a few weekly travel glimmers for you to ponder as we are heading for the weekend super-fast! Today I want to talk about the magic of CONTRAST in travel! If you’re like most adventurous travelers, I am guessing you have at same point craved feeling the pulse of a vibrant city and the serenity of untouched nature preferably on the same journey? I know I have! In today’s travel scene, especially traveling women are embracing the beauty of contrasts more than...

What kind of traveler are you? Are you the one who likes to wing it throughout (because that is "real traveling"), or are you the meticulous planner who gets a dangerously high pulse when something (minor) ruins your perfect itinerary? Truth be told, I am kind of the "wing-it"-type myself. But over the years I have learned (sometimes the hard way) that planning can significantly improve my travel experience in all aspects. Things like research transport options is a great example. I did not...

Sometimes life-lessons comes from the most unexpected of places. When I was about to start the last few miles of my (amazing) trek in the Colombian Amazon jungle, we stopped at a Wiva village (the Indigenous people of this region) to be blessed by a shaman. This was a trek I did on my first long solo trip, a six-month journey alone in South America. During this 4 day trek in the Amazon, I had noticed that the indeginous Wiwa tribe had a very close relationship with nature, and connected this...
