3 iconic destinations where you can have it all - the power of contrast in travel!

Hey Reader,

I am back to normal with a few weekly travel glimmers for you to ponder as we are heading for the weekend super-fast!

Today I want to talk about the magic of CONTRAST in travel!

If you’re like most adventurous travelers, I am guessing you have at same point craved feeling the pulse of a vibrant city and the serenity of untouched nature preferably on the same journey?

I know I have!

In today’s travel scene, especially traveling women are embracing the beauty of contrasts more than ever—jumping between luxury city escapes and wild outdoor retreats in a single trip.

So if you get excited by this idea, here are a few stunning destinations I have visited myself that allows you to have it all!

Norway: Oslo and Lofoten Islands

Start your journey in Oslo, Norway’s capital (and my city), where the vibrant city buzz meets Scandinavian cool!

Oslo has changed dramatically the last decades, becoming a real but small metropole with lots to experience!

Stroll through the Grunerløkka streets, visit world-class museums and top-notch dining, cutting-edge architecture mixed with cozy cafés. The urban vibe is tangible in Oslo, especially along the Barcode waterfront, where the iconic Oslo Opera House and the stunning Astrup Fearnley Museum are highlights.

When you're ready for a change of pace, take a domestic flight to the Lofoten Islands, where epic nature unfolds in front of you.

Imagine jagged mountains rising straight from the sea, dramatic fjords, and white-sand beaches kissed by the midnight sun.

In Lofoten, you can kayak through tranquil waters, hike to panoramic vistas, or simply breathe in the serenity of this untouched paradise.

This is Norway’s ultimate contrast – city living at its finest, followed by the wildest beauty of Arctic nature.

Florida, US: Miami and Biscayne National Park

Miami is a city like no other – colorful, bold, and electric.

The vibrant art scene in Wynwood, the Latin charm of Little Havana, and the glamour of South Beach (my favorite area) make Miami a super urban destination with all the vibe and sass you need for your cityscape.

Take a walk down Ocean Drive for a taste of the iconic Art Deco architecture, or explore the high-end shops and cafés in the Design District.

When the city’s energy becomes overwhelming, find your escape at Biscayne National Park.

Located just off the coast, this hidden gem offers pristine natural beauty with a twist of adventure.

Dive into the coral reefs teeming with marine life, kayak through mangroves, or sail past tiny islands that feel like your private paradise.

This is Miami’s quieter side – a breathtaking retreat into nature just a short distance from the hustle and bustle.

Portugal: Lisbon and Peneda-Gerês National Park

Lisbon is a city of contrasts—steeped in history yet brimming with modern energy. I just visited a couple of weeks ago, and after spending a few days getting to know the city, I am completely infatuated!

The pastel-colored buildings and cobbled streets of Alfama tell stories of the past, while the contemporary vibes of the LX Factory offer a glimpse into Lisbon’s creative future.

Indulge in pastéis de nata at a riverside café and explore the majestic Belém Tower; Lisbon captures the charm and sophistication of Portuguese life.

When you want to step beyond the city, head out to the Peneda-Gerês National Park!

Portugal’s only national park, this is a sanctuary of rolling mountains, deep valleys, and shimmering lakes.

Whether hiking through ancient oak forests or encountering wild horses roaming free, Peneda-Gerês is a place to immerse yourself in nature’s silence and grandeur.

It’s the perfect balance to Lisbon’s urban energy.

Why Especially Solo Female Travelers Love This Trend

Travel today is all about balance. Women like us want to experience the thrill of a cosmopolitan city, but they also want to unwind in nature—where they can disconnect and recharge.

Combining these contrasting ecperiences allows us to feel the pulse of the world, while also finding moments of deep solitude and reflection.

I’ve noticed an uptick in women choosing these “best of both worlds” trips—seeking out places where they can experience everything from upscale dining and luxury stays to challenging hikes and starry nights by a campfire.

Ready to find your perfect contrast?

Whether you’re craving urban excitement or a peaceful nature escape, I’ve got tips and destination guides that will help you do it all in the destinations I know best!

Happy travels and see you under the stars! ✨

What kind of traveler are you? Are you the one who likes to wing it throughout (because that is "real traveling"), or are you the meticulous planner who gets a dangerously high pulse when something (minor) ruins your perfect itinerary? Truth be told, I am kind of the "wing-it"-type myself. But over the years I have learned (sometimes the hard way) that planning can significantly improve my travel experience in all aspects. Things like research transport options is a great example. I did not...

Sometimes life-lessons comes from the most unexpected of places. When I was about to start the last few miles of my (amazing) trek in the Colombian Amazon jungle, we stopped at a Wiva village (the Indigenous people of this region) to be blessed by a shaman. This was a trek I did on my first long solo trip, a six-month journey alone in South America. During this 4 day trek in the Amazon, I had noticed that the indeginous Wiwa tribe had a very close relationship with nature, and connected this...

Hi Reader It is already the 1st of July! Europe has been hotter than ever, and people coming to us on the North Cape in the Norwegian Arctic say they are so happy to escape the temperatures and breathe fresh air! Imagine needing that for your summer holiday! Anyways, if you have not been able to plan anything exciting for summer yet, wherever you dream about going, I have researched some great summer deals for you. But first, you were not able to help me out yesterday, I would really...
